Growing up in Southern California Matthew Wilson Ross was exposed to the film industry at a very young age. His mother, Mary Hall Ross is an award-winning pioneer in Luxury product placement with a career that spans four decades. Growing up in Southern California Matthew Wilson Ross was exposed to the film industry at a very young age. His mother, Mary Hall Ross is an award-winning pioneer in Luxury product placement with a career that spans four decades. It wasn’t until he accompanied his mother to the set of Gary Marshall’s “Pretty Woman” the Matt was officially bitten by the film bug.
As a 25-year-old production assistant Matt cut his teeth into the world of advertising at production houses like Propaganda Films, Moxie Pictures and Bedford Falls. In the mid-90’s, these commercial companies were production juggernauts, processing director’s rosters that were second to none; exposing Matt to the highest quality of production right out of the gate. Working with acclaimed commercial directors such as Michael Bay, David Fincher, Danny Levinson, Marshall Herskovitz, Simon West and Steve Chase, Matt would quickly realize that his true calling on set was as an Assistant Director. Persistence, hard work, dedication, and a hyper-attention to detail allowed Matt to become a member of the Director’s Guild of America in just over three years. As a member of the DGA, Matt’s career in adverting would continue with directorial giants Gore Verbinski, Todd Phillips, Joe Pytka, Noam Murro, Paul Goldman, Josh Taft, Sean Thonson, Tony Kaye, Jeff Zwart, Jonas Akerlund, Jake Scott just to name a few.
After spending 13 years working strictly in advertising Matt made the jump to feature films. “The Heartbreak Kid”, produced by DreamWorks and Paramount topped $75 million, making it the most expensive comedy at that time. This would be the first of a few projects that Matt, the Farrelly Brothers, and Paramount Pictures would collaborate on. Matt’s 25+ year career reflects extensive experience and work in all genres of the film industry; Commercials, Film, Scripted T.V., as well as high-end Reality T.V. It is this extensive experience that makes Matt such a valuable team player. Efficient and passionately productive, Matt thrives on collaborating with his fellow crew members, allowing them to perform at their highest ability. Collectively achieving the unique and creative goal as one.
Matthew Wilson Ross graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from San Francisco State University. He is a dedicated father to two amazing young men that he considerers his greatest life accomplishment. A seasoned traveler to many distant locations, Matt resides in Austin , TX.
